How to Use Emotional Freedom Technique

How to Use Emotional Freedom Technique

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is an alternative therapy based on the idea that blocked energy in the body causes everything from physical pain to psychiatric disorders. EFT works on the meridian system in the same way as acupuncture but without the needles. Follow these steps and see if Emotional Freedom Technique is for you.

1

Understand that Emotional Freedom Technique is a mind and body technique. Treatment involves physically tapping on energy points and mentally focusing on pain or emotional problems at the same time.

2

Try the karate chop point along the outside of your non-dominant hand, beneath your little finger. Tap this area with the second and third fingers of your opposite hand.

3

Find the sore spots located at both the upper right and upper left parts of the chest. Pressing in either area usually reveals a sore spot, which should be rubbed while saying an affirmation or concentrating on your problem. Many feel that this is a more effective move than the karate chop.

4

Tap the points of the energy meridian of your face. First tap the bridge of your nose with the second and third fingers of your left hand. Alternate with tapping on the outer side of one of your eyes. Breathe slowly and deeply while doing this and think about your problem. If the problem is stress, use positive affirmations.

5

Move to the bony area underneath the eye and tap. Next, tap above and below your lips at the same time.

6

See what happens when you tap on other energy points in the body. These pathway points are located at the collarbone, under the arm, below the nipple, thumb, index finger, middle finger and little finger.

7

Contact a trained EFT practitioner for more complicated treatment and teaching.

Tips & Warnings

Emotional Freedom Technique is based on Thought Field Therapy, a traditional Chinese therapy that treats blocked energy.

Like many alternative therapies, EFT is still being studied for scientific proof. Some studies have shown promise when EFT is used for treatment of phobias and anxiety.

How to Use Cupping

How to Use Cupping

Cupping is a healing art first used by ancient Chinese practitioners who called it "horn therapy." The process is simple. Glass cups are heated from the inside and placed above different muscle areas to form suction. This is said to stimulate circulation and suck out toxins, allowing the body to heal from anything from colds to back pain. The use of cupping is said to be safe and noninvasive.

1

Learn the difference between the two different kinds of cupping, wet and dry. Wet cupping involves bloodletting, which is not the focus of this article and is a whole different therapy unto itself. Dry cupping involves placing the cups over unbroken skin.

2

Consider the two different ways the cups are used, stationary and moving. Stationary is the technique most used by Chinese practitioners and involves placing the cups on the skin and leaving them for 5-15 minutes in one location. Moving, also known as "massage cupping," is the choice of today's therapists. Before the cups are used, oil is rubbed onto the skin to help identify areas of tension or congestion, the cup is then placed, the vacuum is created and the cup is slid over the surface of the affected area.

3

Note that glass or bamboo are the preferred materials for the cups. The cups are placed on the skin with suction, which is said to influence the flow of energy and blood in the body, particularly the affected area needing treatment.

4

Experience cupping for yourself if you are having problems with your neck, shoulders, back, hips, abdomen, thighs, upper arms or calves. There is a specific pattern to the cups depending on the condition involved. For example, the cups are placed in rows down the back next to the spine to help relieve colds and the flu or to suppress pain.

5

Understand the vacuum in the cup brings blood and lymph to the area which is said to promoting circulation and healing. In addition, the suction will help disrupt adhesions between the skin and underlying connective tissues, assisting with range of motion issues.

6

Contact licensed massage therapists in your area to see if they offer cupping.

Tips & Warnings

If you are a licensed massage therapist, you can train to become a professional cupping practitioner. Professional training is available as a one-day workshop in different cities around the U.S. or as a video. Both provide Continuing Education Credits (CECs) for massage therapists.

Consult a physician before using cupping as a treatment and then allow only licensed practitioners to conduct the procedure.

Cupping can result in temporary marks and bruises on your skin.

For sinus headaches, use a solution of water and 1/8 of a cup of apple cider vinegar in a vaporizer or tabletop inhaler. Inhale for five minutes, then rest and let the solution clear your respiratory passages.

4

Soak your feet at the end of a long day in a tub filled with warm water and a cup of apple cider vinegar. Keep your feet submerged for fifteen minutes.

How to Use a Home Remedy for Nail Fungus

How to Use a Home Remedy for Nail Fungus

Nail fungus usually occurs when the toenails are exposed to damp public areas, such as the gym, swimming pools or public bathrooms. Nail fungus causes your nails to become discolored, and a foul smelling substance will begin to grow under the nail. You may also experience pain at the nail site. There are several home remedies you can use to cure nail fungus.

1

Use tea tree oil. Placing a small amount of tea tree oil on the affected toe will clean the toe out and also act as a fungicide.

2

Soak the infected foot in a mixture of equal parts warm water and apple cider vinegar. The mixture works as an antiseptic.

3

Mix oregano oil and olive oil. Place a few drops on the nail fungus. Oregano oil has antiseptic, antibacterial, analgesic and antifungal properties.

4

Apply grapefruit seed extract. Another remedy that you can use is to spritz the extract onto the affected site twice a day.

5

Dry feet thoroughly after placing any type of home remedy upon them. Damp toes will breed more fungus.

Tips & Warnings

If you have iodine in your home, use it to cure nail fungus. Place the iodine on the fungus and cover immediately since iodine can stain bedding and clothing.

To prevent nail fungus, wear sandals at all times while walking on wet surfaces and avoid wearing wet or damp shoes.

Until the nail fungus is cured, you can cover the unsightly nails with a dark nail polish.

How to Successfully Shop for Clothes in Thrift Stores

How to Successfully Shop for Clothes in Thrift Stores

Thrift stores are the secret of many fashionistas on a budget. With a bit of luck you can often find nearly new and beautiful vintage items that you can take home without putting down the plastic.

Things You'll Need:

Cash

Measuring Tape

Step
1

Make a list of the items that you need. Thrift stores can often seem very cluttered, if you put the items down on paper that you are looking for, it can help you feel more organized and keep you from being overwhelmed.

Step
2

Take measurements of your best fitting clothes, some thrift stores do not offer you the option of trying clothes on, and in these cases these measurements will come in quite handy. You may consider taking such important measurements as the waist and inseam of your favorite pants, and the measurement from underarm to underarm of your favorite top. Take your measuring tape with you to the store, in the case that you are unable to try on the items of your choosing, compare the measurements of the item with those of your own clothing, this will give you an idea of how a certain garment will fit.

Step
3

Set a budget. When we decide to venture into thrift stores we often forget the importance of watching the amount of money that we spend, becoming the sudden spendthrift can cause you to take home many items that you don't need and cause a terrible case of buyers remorse. When shopping in thrift stores stick to your budget as if you would if you were shopping in a retail store.

Step
4

Allow yourself plenty of time to look. Thrift stores will often have a large selection of items that you will wish to look through in order to find that perfect treasure for you to take home. By allowing yourself plenty of time you wont go home wondering if you overlooked something while you were in the store.

Step
5

Shop often. New items are often arriving in these stores everyday through new consignments or donations, and in this game the early bird truly does get the worm, in order to get the best finds, you must be there and ready to pounce.

Tips & Warnings

Carry cash, many thrift stores do not accept plastic.
