How to Suggest a School Prom Dress Drive

How to Suggest a School Prom Dress Drive

As prom season approaches, there are thousands of
teens
across America who can't afford to purchase prom dresses. So, why not start a school prom dress drive? Encourage your classmates to donate old prom dresses to girls who are less fortunate. Here are tips.

Step
1

Talk to your school principal or assistant principal. Ask if you can have a prom dress drive. Go into the meeting prepared. Know what
dates
you want to have it (choose with enough time before prom that it will work), how much space you will need, where and how students will donate prom dresses, etc.

Step
2

Once the event is approved, go to local businesses, like movie theaters or malls and find out if they will donate gift certificates for girls who donate dresses. If all else fails, put together bags of candy for donors.

Step
3

Create flyers for the event and post them around the school. Flyers should be eyecatching with slogans like "Donate your old prom dresses," "We want your old prom dresses," "Prom dresses for prizes," etc. Then, tell your friends to spread the word about the event.

Step
4

Set up a table and collection bins for prom dress dropoffs. Have a colorful poster behind you that indicates what you're doing. Give each person who donates a dress a prize, either a bag of candy or donated gift from local company.

Step
5

Do your research and find out which charities in your town collect prom dresses for underprivileged girls. Also, put an ad in the school paper and arrange a "prom dress giveaway day."

Step
6

Set up racks, hang up the dresses and let the girls come in and shop.
